Aconcagua, Argentina – 1990

At 6862m Cerro Aconcagua is the highest mountain outside Asia.

We trekked from the sulphurous springs of Puente del Inca (2740m) via Confluenia, Plaza de Mulas (4370m) to one of our highest top camps at Nido de Cóndores (5570m). Mules assisted porters in carrying equipment.

Research included a comparison of oxygen, oxygen with carbon dioxide and hyperbaric compression on hypoxia, middle cerebral artery velocity studies, auditory brain stem evoked responses and lipid digestion, absorption and metabolism.
